2nd Mobile Service of the Sri Lanka High Commission in U.K. was held in Manchester - 24 July 2010

The second Mobile Service of the Sri Lanka High Commission in U.K. was held in Manchester, 24 July 2010 at the Unitarian Chapel, Oldham, Manchester. H.E. Justice Nihal Jayasinghe, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka inaugurated the Mobile Service. While addressing the gathering, the High Commissioner stated that the concept of the Mobile Service is part of the vision of H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka, to take the administration to the public. He further stated that with the successful conclusion of the Mobile Service in Birmingham in April this year, it led to the decision to hold this Service in Manchester this time. He appreciated the participation of Bank of Ceylon, SriLankan Airlines and Sri Lanka Tourism in this service, to Sri Lankans and others living in and around Manchester.

Ven. Piyatissa, Chief Incumbent of the Ketumathi Buddhist Vihara, on behalf of Sri Lankans living in Manchester thanked H.E. the High Commissioner and staff for organising this event to provide services to those living in Manchester, or otherwise they would have had to travel more than 200 miles to London, to obtain these services, spending a whole day and a considerable amount of money, and requested the High Commission to organise this type of services regularly, all over UK to help Sri Lankans. The Ven. Piyatissa stated that every possible assistance on their part would be extended to the Mission in making this service a success.

Around 150 Sri Lankans attended the Mobile Service and received assistance by way of registration of birth, application for new passports, renewal/extension of passports, certification and translation of documents, applications for dual citizenship, obtaining visas and attending to matters related to pensions and trade. SriLankan Airlines offered a special package to those who called at this service and Bank of Ceylon also assisted Sri Lankans in opening new accounts.
