US Govt encourages parallel efforts to resolve conflict

The Government's commitment and the determination to fully implement the recommendations of the All Party Representative Committee (APRC), towards achieving a durable political settlement to the current conflict in line with the 13th Amendment was commended by the Deputy Ambassador for US Embassy in Colombo James Moor.

Addressing a National Conference on Provincial Councils held at the BMICH on May 28 the Deputy Ambassador said "Sri Lanka's minorities need to know that they can have a role in a united Sri Lanka where they can control many of their own affairs on a regional basis".

It was the view of the Deputy Ambassador that military action alone would not address the underlying factors, circumstances and grievances that gave rise to the conflict.

He stressed the necessity of a parallel political solution to achieve lasting peace in Sri Lanka.
