Sri Lanka notes that the doctors, in question had treated the sick and the wounded. There is an
unfortunate, but well-founded, concern about their complicity with the LTTE during the final phases of the LITE hostage taking. Therefore, they are in protective custody. Legal inquiries are being conducted to determine whether they had been in breach of the anti-terrorist laws and
departmental rules. The ICRC and relatives have access to the doctors. Their case will be determined through a normal judicial process.
